Catherine Zeta Jones  "Zeta" born 25 September 1969 now anglicized as Catherine Zeta-Jones, is a Welsh actress who currently resides in the United States. She began her acting career at a young age. After appearing in a number of television films and small film roles in the United Kingdom and the United States, she came to prominence in the late 1990s with roles in Hollywood films such as The Phantom, The Mask of Zorro and Entrapment. She won an Academy Award, a BAFTA Award, and a Scream Actors Guild Award, and was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for her role as Velma Kelly in the 2002 film adaptation of Chicago.

Early life 

She was born Catherine Zeta-Jones in Swansea, South Wales, to Patricia an Irish seamstress, and David "Dai" Jones, a Welsh sweet factory owner, in 1946.Her name was originally named after her grandmothers—her maternal grandmother was Catherine Fair, and her paternal grandmother was Zeta-Jones (1917 – 14 August 2008).

Zeta-Jones was raised Catholic. After winning £100,000 at bingo in 1980, her parents moved to St Andrew's Drive, Myles, an upper middle-class area of Swansea. Jones left the private Dumbarton House School early without completing her O Levels so she could pursue her acting ambitions. She then enrolled for a full year on a three-year course in musical theatre at The Arts Educational School in Chiswick, west London.

Personal life

Zeta-Jones married actor Michael Douglas, who shares the same birthday but is 25 years older than her. She claims that when they met, he said, "I'd like to be the father of your children". They married on 18 November 2000 at the Plaza Hotel in New York. A traditional Welsh chorus was sung at their wedding. Her Welsh gold wedding ring has a Celtic motif and was purchased in the Welsh town of Aberystwyth. They have two children. Their son, Dylan Michael Douglas (named after Dylan Thomas), was born on 8 August 2000, while Zeta-Jones was busy with her pregnancy and her role in Traffic. Their daughter, Carys Zeta Douglas, was born on 20 April 2003. Zeta-Jones has two brothers, David and Lyndon.Her father's cousin married singer Bonnie Tyler, from Neath, Wales. Her younger brother, Lyndon Jones, is her personal manager and a producer for Milkwood Films. Zeta-Jones's parents recently moved their Mayalls estate to a £2 million mansion two miles (3 km) west of Swansea, paid for by their daughter.

In 2004, Douglas and Zeta-Jones took legal action against stalker Donte Knight, who was accused of sending the couple violent letters containing graphic threats about Katherine's life. In her testimony, Zeta-Jones said she was so shaken by the threats that she was terrified and broke. Knight claimed she was in love with Douglas and confessed to the crimes in October 2003 and May 2004. She was sentenced to three years in prison.

Catherine French and Jennifer Saunders performed a spoof of Zeta-Jones on their show French and Saunders in the Back with a Vengeance series, portraying her as the utterly silly Katherine Spartacus-Zeta-Douglas-Jones. Katherine Spartacus-Zeta-Douglas-Jones switches between a strong Welsh accent and a strong American accent, and uses Welsh phrases when she speaks.

Zeta-Jones also did a spoof of Debra Stephenson reading Beauty and the Beast on the BBC's The Impressions Show with Culshaw and Stephenson, switching between strong Welsh and American accents.
